July first is the start of a new year with my company. I love that it comes in the middle of the calendar year, giving me a reminder to reflect on where I have been, where I am going, and the progress I’ve made along the way. Thus far I am please with the progress I’ve been making on my goals for the year, primarily to rest and take care of myself. I feel like I have made leaps and bounds on myself. I’m also setting some new goals, a few really big, really scary, I-want-to-hide-in-my-closet-with-my-Costco-sized-bag-of-chocolate type of goals. Right now, the belief in myself that I can achieve these goals is really low. They are too big and scary, which is why I am spending some time meditating on my word for the year–courage.
I love the eptimology of the word courage. The root of courage is “cor”–the Latin word for heart. So courage is all about heart. To be fearless is too high a bar for me (or any human in my opinion), but to let my heart conquer in the face of my fear is something I can work towards. So my words this month are all going to be related to courage in some way. I hope I can inspire a few of you to step out of your comfort zone and let your heart triumph over your fear.
