Summer is here along with sunshine. That means its time to talk about sunscreen and sun care. Over exposure to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can cause premature skin aging, wrinkles, and dark spots, and more frighteningly skin cancer. So it is important to protect your skin from the sun every day (not just in summer). Check out the facts from the Skin Cancer Foundation below.

Let’s start with sun care for everyday. Even though it doesn’t seem like you are getting much sun exposure for 75% of the year if you live in Ohio or Michigan you should still take steps to limit your exposure.
Start by sheltering yourself from the sun. Avoid going out when the sun is most intense, seek shady spots for your outdoor time. Wear protect clothing as much as possible such as broad brimmed hats, long pant/sleeves, and UV blocking sunglasses.
The first step for that is using a day cream moisturizer with sunscreen built in. Take it a step further for everyday skin care by protecting your face from all the grime in the environment with a primer and/or foundation which provide you with another layer of SPF. (Learn more about how foundation protects your skin here) Don’t forget your lips! Look for a balm with SPF and layer it with your regular lip color. Be sure to re-apply regularly
The more intense rays of the summer sun, water sports, or even snow sports in the winter require more intense protection. That’s where Broad Spectrum SPF comes in. Look for something the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends for Active Wear. This sun care should be applied 30 minutes before going out in the sun and every two hours while you are out, more frequently if you are swimming or sweating excessively.

I hope you are all able to get out of the house and enjoy the sun this summer while staying safe. Wishing blessings on you all.
