One thing I struggle with is setting good goals. I tend to get goals and vision mixed up. For example I have it stuck in my head that the goal of my business is to encourage women to live a life full of joy and hope. Well, I will never be sure if I’ve reached that “goal” because really it is more of a mission or vision. So one thing I’ve worked on is making SMART goals that support my vision. A SMART goal is something that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-sensitive.
If you have been following me, you know that my health has been an issue for me (although I did celebrate a few HUGE victories this past week with my energy and my mood). Since being able to encourage others depends heavily on me feeling hopeful myself, my health is a major focus for this month. One of my goals is to be able to stand with my feet together and eyes closed for 60 seconds without loosing my balance. Here is how I am breaking that down.
- S-Stand feet together, eyes closed, without loosing my balance
- M-60 seconds
- A-I went from 10 seconds to 30 seconds over my first six weeks of therapy, so yes, this is attainable by continuing my vestibular therapy daily.
- R-By improving my vestibular function I will have more energy to be able to play with my family, build my business, and explore with my scouts in the future
- T-By my next therapy appointment in February
But it is also good to have some huge goals–like to be in a company car by the end of my youngest son’s Kindergarten year. He just turned four and honestly, right now this goal terrifies more than a little bit. But I know that if I am in the car within two and a half years that will mean I have touched a lot of women’s lives in ways that they have found meaningful (or they wouldn’t be buying from me or working with me). Without a plan to make this happen it is just a dream. Well, I don’t have really detailed plans on such a big long term goal right now, but I do have some generalized plans, so it is a little more than a dream. The things I need to do right now to reach my car then are get all the education I can, to work each quarter a few SMART goals at a time, and aim to make a stronger and broader business foundation as I go.
So I hope these quotes help to inspire you to set some goals, HUGE goals and SMART goals, and get you where you want to be. And please, tell me in the comments what your top goal is right now.
