2019.12 December--Advent, Word of the Week

Word of the Week: Anticipation

It’s after lunch and I’m furiously working on this post, obviously I didn’t anticipate Sunday coming around so fast again. It was a tiring week, I did get two new posts started that I’m working on some picture content for. I’m thinking I’ll save them for a New Year, New Look series in January.

So, “Anticipation” has been a word I’ve been pondering all week without making much progress on figuring it out. Maybe that’s because I feel like I’ve been falling behind for over a year.

I did accept that I don’t have the energy to do all the shopping this year and ordered the last of the gifts last night for Christmas. But all of the decorations are still up in the attic. Until last Christmas I had everything set up within a week of Thanksgiving (if not earlier). I usually start sprinkling in Christmas music and movies sometime in October. Instead I just watched my first holiday movie of the season today. I don’t know why, but I’m just not anticipating the holiday like I use to. Which is one reason I’m looking forward to digging deeper into a few “anticipation” quotes this week, and igniting a little more of that joy.

A piece of inspiration did strike while I was watching my JJ play hockey this morning. He was on defense and skating back and forth, following the puck down at the other end of the ice, anticipating where it might come from if it ever came his way. I was reminded of the Wayne Gretzky quote “Good players skate to where the puck is, great players skate to where it is going to be.” If you’ve been following me, you know I’ve been facing some giants and have mostly been playing defense in the process. So the other thing I’m working on right now is anticipating what is going to be a drain on my energy and being proactive in building those energy reserves (meager as they are) and avoid the drain in the first place, instead of just trying to minimize the damage.

Here are my pieces of inspiration for the week. Follow me on Facebook or Instagram to get my deeper insight as my daily mindfulness journey continues. And please tell me in the comments: what are you anticipating most this season?
